EMILY AS A LAND UNDER SIEGE
DARREN C. DEMAREE
EMILY AS THE GREEK MYTHS FAIL
This is a two-thirds of an acre world
& they tell me the nexus of the gods
can cradle her ripening tan lines?
Y’all mother-
fuckers think Emily is going
to let you legislate
her body?
Goddamn. Such stupidity
masquerading as bravery
is going to get you stomped
on by a woman
who, in common measuring,
isn’t even five feet tall.
I love it when she makes this
world a righteous show.
I love when dumbass suits
make her prove there
are no common women.
I love it when we get
to budget
for spiked heels.
EMILY AS I TAKE MY MEDICINE ON THE FLOOR
I don’t fall so much anymore,
so if you see me on the floor,
it’s because Emily has willed it.
